Fortinocchio

In an old carpenter’s shop, Geppetto, a friendly and kindly man, finished yet another day of work by putting the finishing touches of paint on a wooden puppet that he had made that day. When he looked at it, he though: that has turned out very nicely! And because the puppet had been made in the Hotel Fuerte Miramar – SPA in Marbella, Geppetto decided to call him Fortinocchio.

That night, Geppetto went to bed, wishing that his puppet was a real boy. He had always wanted to have a son. When he was sound asleep, a good fairy came along. She saw that Fortinocchio was such a good piece of work and wanted to reward the carpenter by giving life to the puppet with her magic wand.

When he woke up the next day, Geppetto couldn’t believe his eyes. To the old carpenter’s joy, Fortinocchio was moving around, walking, laughing and talking just like a real boy. Happy and very satisfied, Geppetto sent Fortinocchio school. He wanted him to be an intelligent child who would learn a lot of things. His friend Jiminy Cricket, the advisor given to him by the good fairy, went with him.

But on the way to school, Fortinocchio made friends with two very bad boys, copied their bad behaviour and ignored the cricket’s advice. Instead of going to school, Fortinocchio decided to follow his new friends in search of unsavoury adventures. When she saw what had happened, the good fairy put a spell on him. She gave him two donkey ears for not going to school, and made his nose grow longer and redder every time he told a lie for his misbehavior. In the end, Fortinocchio realises that he is not being a good boy, and he goes to look for Geppetto with his tail between his legs. He found out that Geppetto had gone out to look for him at sea, and had been swallowed by a huge whale.

Fortinocchio goes to sea with the help of the cricket to rescue the poor old man. When Fortinocchio found the whale, he asked it for his father back, but the whale opened its mouth very wide and swallowed him as well. Geppetto and Fortinocchio found each other inside the whale’s stomach. And they started to think about how to get out of there. They found the way out thanks to Jiminy Cricket. They made a fire. The fire made the enormous whale sneeze, and the raft flew out of the mouth with its three crew members. Everyone was safe and sound.

Fortinocchio went back home and to school, and from that day he has always behaved himself. And as a reward for being good, the good fairy turned him into a flesh and blood boy, and they all lived happily ever after.
