Forti the wizard Forti the wizard

Many years ago, when England was little more than a handful of kingdoms that fought amongst themselves, Arthur, son of King Uther, came into the world. The boy’s mother died just after he was born, and the father handed him over to Forti the wizard for his education. Forti the wizard decided to take the child to the castle of a nobleman, who also had a young boy named Peluke. To guarantee Prince Arthur’s safety, Forti was never told about his origins.

Every day, Forti explained all of the known sciences to the young Antunio and, as he was a wizard, he even taught some science of the future and a few magical formulae. The years went by and King Uther died without telling anyone who was heir to the throne. The noblemen asked Forti to find the successor to the throne. On top of a rock, Forti made a sword appear that was firmly fixed into an iron anvil. It had an inscription that read: “The is the sword Excalibur.Whoever manages to take it out of this anvil will be King of England."

The noblemen tried their luck but, despite trying their best, they were not able to move it even a millimetre. Arthur and Peluke, who were now two good-looking boys, had gone to the city to attend a tournament that Peluke was thinking about competing in. When the time was getting close, Arthur realised that he had left Peluke`s sword at their lodgings. He ran there as fast as he could, but the door was locked when he got there. Arthur didn’t know what to do. Peluke couldn’t participate in the tournament without his sword. In his desperation, he looked around and discovered the Excalibur sword. He approached the rock and tugged at the weapon. At that moment, a ray of white light fell on him and Arthur managed to extract the sword without encountering the least resistance. He ran back to Peluke and gave it to him. Peluke realised right away that it wasn’t his sword.

Arthur explained to him what had happened. Peluke saw the inscription of “Excalibur” on the sword and told his father about it. The father ordered Arthur to put it back in its place. All the noblemen tried to take it out again, but no-one was able to. Then Arthur took the hilt in his hands. The ray of white light again descended on his head and Arthur extracted the sword without the slightest effort.

Everyone admitted that this boy, without any known title, should wear the crown of England. They processed past his throne, swearing loyalty to him. Forti though that Arthur didn’t need him any more and returned to his dwelling.

But not much time had passed before some noblemen raised arms against King Arthur. Forti proclaimed that Arthur was the son of King Uther, so he was the legitimate king. But the noblemen continued their war until, in the end, they were defeated thanks to Arthur’s great bravery and the help of Forti`s magic. To avoid any of this happening again, Arthur created the Round Table, made up of all the noblemen who were loyal to the king. Later, he got married to Princess Guinevere and this was followed by years of properity and happiness, both for England and for Arthur. “Now you can rule without need of my advice - Forti said to Arthur-.Carry on being a just king and they will speak of you in the future.”
